THE ERESA FOUNDATION

As part of our commitment with society, the Fundación Grupo ERESA foundation was created in 2007 for medical research and investigation. This Foundation was devised for the purpose of boosting, promoting, supporting and dissemination of research in the field of health sciences, as well as training and teaching in the health sector.

Since then, the Fundación Grupo ERESA foundation has been developing its activities under a neutrality and non-discrimination policy; actively participating in numerous scientific studies and investigations, organising specialised courses, maintaining its grant programmes for research and training for specialists, organising scientific events, promoting the ongoing training of its specialists and upholding relations with educational and scientific centres and institutions.

Scientific and Educational Activities

The service staff maintains standard scientific collaborations with different national and international centres and universities, such as the University of Seville, University of Valencia and the University of Santiago de Compostela, among others. There are also existing collaborations with different first-level hospitals such as; the Hospital Puerta de Hierro in Madrid, the Virgen de la Macarena Hospital in Seville or the Hospital la Fe in Valencia, along with different companies in the biomedical field. As a result of these collaborations, the radiation physics service staff has a significant number of articles published in highly influential magazines both on a national and international level.

Our young Foundation is progressively growing and display of this pursuit is the access to the latest generation technologies to support and encourage research work , as is the case of high-precision 3T MRI scanners. Through ERESA Grupo Médico (Medical Group), the Fundación Grupo ERESA foundation has access to all the infrastructures, equipment and staff required for the optimum development of research activity. Our concern is made evident by making use of the most advanced technologies for the success in our research studies.

Both the academic and research work are only possible through the foundation’s human capitol of expert professionals dedicated to radiology, cardiology, radiation oncology, radiation physics, nuclear medicine and nursing. Likewise, we cannot forget that the proper realization of our activities is backed by the foundation’s advisory body and the Scientific Committee of dedicated professionals and researchers of the Region of Valencia. This is essential for ensuring the scientific quality of our work and the necessary expertise to guide our research and actions in the right direction.

Moreover, the staff frequently participates in various national and international congresses related to medical physics and radiation therapy.

Among others, the various lines of research include:

  • IMRIT directa por la perspectiva del haz
  • Neutron dose rate detection and measurement with solid-state detectors
  • Development of liquid-filled ionization chambers arrays for the quality control of IMRT
  • Electron IMRT
  • Photographic Dosimetry
  • Nuclear medicine imaging
  • Quality control of external radiotherapy and nuclear medicine
  • Brachytherapy dosimetry by the Monte Carlo method
  • Algorithms in brachytherapy dose calculation
  • Development of brachytherapy sources and applicators
  • Direct-aperture optimisation for IMRT
  • Radiobiology

Academics

The Radiation physics staff has broad experience in teaching university undergraduate and post-graduate studies; mainly in the areas related to Medical Physics but also in basic physics. The staff teaches classes in centres that include; the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Physics of the University of Valencia, the Faculty of Sciences of the National University of Distance Education (UNED) at its headquarters in Valencia, and the Faculty of Dentistry of CEU San Pablo University. Likewise, the staff service has extensive experience in courses related to radiological protection and ionizing radiations in hospital environment; either on a senior technician level or a nurse practitioner level. We receive routing visits from residents in the speciality of radiation physics to complete their training and learn or delve into aspects related to the different techniques that we normally use. Throughout the year, our centre works with schools for superior technicians in radiotherapy by conducting internships for students of this speciality.
