Radio-diagnostics | Mammography

A mammography is the key technique used in diagnosing breast cancer and it allows its detection in very early stages. It is recommended for every women over the age of 40, repeating the screening every one or two years.

Other tests for breasts:

• Galactography: With a tube the teat duct is catheterized and a contrast agent is introduced. Used in the study of secretions.

• Pneumocystography: In the case of breast cysts,  they are emptied using a syringe and then air is introduced. The mammography enables to see the inner contour of the cyst and rule out lesions that may be inside.

• Stereotaxis: Biopsy of a lesion detected with a mammography.

BREAST ULTRASOUND

The ultrasound allows the study of the breast and its a complimentary technique in a mammography. And since the image is provided in real time, it is used for punctures, biopsies or pre-operative markings.

In young women who need scanning, the ultrasound is the first technique that is recommended. In those patients who by the nature of their gland, either a dense breast, will also need an ultrasound study.

  • LCNB(Large-Core Needle Biopsy) o Breast FNA (Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy).
  •  Cyst drainage
  • Marking lesions before surgery.
  •  Study of axillary lymph nodes.
